Institiwt Corris

The project to renovate the Corris Institute, a listed building that had fallen into disrepair, has now come to an end. The aim of the project was the improvement of existing community services; provision of advice and support to tackle crime; improve community and mainstream services which contribute to the greater involvement in community life of excluded sections. The Corris Institute received a total of £418,790 over three years in grant aid from the European Union. The Welsh Assembly Government, the Gwynedd Economic Partnership and the Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund for Wales. This money was provided to cover the cost of repair and refurbishment of the Institute and also the creation and support of our post as Development Officer until the end of the funding. The Institute is now a busy community centre and venue – and includes a Café, Post Office, After School Club and Snooker room. Local Clubs and societies meet, evening and day classes are being held which include drama, yoga, history, computer, dance and Welsh. Events are held and touring companies find this an excellent venue for music and drama. We hire rooms at a very competitive price and are able to offer the use of the Kitchen or arrange catering for any event. Although the project itself has completed and the community is making great use of the facilities, to make sure its continuation into this century we have to strive hard with further developments so that it is put to its maximum use to guarantee its sustainability.
